Ah, summertime in Butte, Montana. What’s not to love? You can catch a bumpy bus tour out to see the breath-taking view from Our Lady of the Rockies, or you can try to take in a ghost-sighting down at the Dumas Brothel Museum. There’s also no shortage of live music, seasonal brew, outdoor grilling, fishing, and so forth.
Just don’t have so much fun that you forget about your oral health needs! To keep you thinking about such things, the team here at Butte Family Dental has put together some guidelines for keeping your mouth clean and your smile looking great all through the season.
Keep reading, and then be sure to get in-touch with our crew to set-up your next preventive dental appointment.
Avoid Sugary Snacks
A soft drink or sugary snack is an easy thing to lean on, especially when you are camping, hanging by the pool, or out on the road. But such choices won’t be good for you in the long run because all that sugar will feed the bacteria that brings about tooth decay.
Drink All The Water You Can
Drinking water is a great idea in general. Plus, it can help keep your breath fresh by allowing you to produce enough saliva to eradicate the bad-breath-causing bacteria. Any water with fluoride is even better!
Brush Every Day, Twice
Even though your routine has relaxed a bit, you should still be brushing your teeth for 2 minutes or more, at least twice each day. This will keep cavities and gum disease on the run, and it will leave your mouth feeling refreshed.
Flossing Is A Big Deal
You may have heard us say that brushing is the least you can do to protect your teeth and gums. Seriously! Brushing alone is never going to be enough to get the whole job done. To tackle the plaque and tartar that remains between your teeth and in other hard to see areas, dental floss is your best bet.
Rinse With Fluoride
There are fluoride mouthwashes available at any drugstore that can bring added oral health benefits. Be sure to check the labels for age-appropriateness!
Stop By Butte Family Dental
It makes sense that having a dentist you can trust is a good idea. But we can only do so much if you never show your face in our welcoming office. Coming by our dental office every three to six months is key for optimizing your oral health.
This is why: the professional teeth cleanings we provide can address any bacteria, tartar, or plaque that is waiting to do you in.
Beyond that, our complete oral exams will give you a clearer picture of what is going on in your mouth at any given time. We like to remind folks that early detection and treatment is always the easiest route.
Plus, we offer more prevention strategies for your family! For example, we can deliver fluoride treatments and sealants for kids and grown-ups alike. These things can cut down your future likelihood of cavities and other bad things.
